This is a "little game", but I like it very much. The gameplay is nice, the art is excellent, and the music is WONDERFUL (at least for a 53 years old gamer). Frankly, as a European (French), I've discovered I relate a lot more to gaming Russian atmosphere than to american crafted games.
It could be described as a mature version of Robotality/Chucklefish games: mix the atmosphere of Halfway with the gameplay of Pathway, improve the strategic aspect and add a Carpenter-ish atmosphere, then you'll get a pretty good idea of what Depth of Extinction is like. Playing with the Build 52 (still in beta at the time of this review, but it seems pretty bug-free) makes it a perfect game for the amateur of indie team turn-based exploration games.
There are three games I've been waiting for years to be re-released by GOG: "Get medieval", "Zax the alien hunter", and "Hexplore"! Hexplore will enchant older gamers who played it 20 years ago, but I'm not so sure about younger gamers. Anyway, this is an exciting release of a very charming and additive action light-RPG with a lot of personality and easy to control. Set your expectation low, give it a try, and who knows maybe you'll have an entertaining good surprise.
What a delicious dungeon crawler! It's funny (very well written), it has a great atmosphere, a nice sense of progress along the missions, important choices that matter towards factions... And humour, too! No tedious feeling of grinding at all (at least for me, who enjoy a bit of grind), and a solid feeling of working as an actual crawler (space looter/mercenary). I play it on another platform (a steaming pile of... games), but I consider buying it again on GOG (at a discount) to support the devs. Ain't that real love?
